Few hundred residents, sixty churches, no cars. Erice sits at 751 metres above western Sicily, cooler than the coast and quieter than anywhere nearby. The Ettore Majorana Foundation has brought the world's best scientists here since 1963. The cable car down to Trapani takes ten minutes.
